THROW THE WHOLE COMPUTER AWAY
Episode 19: The Watermark War
Today’s battle:
protecting designs online.
I wanted my images protected…
but not ugly.
That’s the struggle nobody talks about.
Too small?
People steal the design.
Too big?
Now the watermark looks like it’s auditioning for a Love Island flame position
I spent HOURS moving transparent text around product images like I was editing government documents.
MELTDOWN
At one point the watermark covered the shirt so much even I couldn’t see the design anymore.
I created anti-theft armor so powerful it blocked customers too.
That’s when I knew I lost the plot.
LESSON
Watermarks should discourage theft…
not ruin the viewing experience.
Use:
- subtle placement
- semi-transparent overlays
- repeated small marks
- branded consistency
And understand this painful truth:
if somebody REALLY wants to steal your work…
they probably will.
The goal is making it inconvenient.
CLIFFHANGER
Tomorrow I’m batch watermarking hundreds of images because apparently I enjoy digital suffering.
